Finnair launches new Melbourne-Helsinki route

In a major win for Australian travellers, Finnair has officially announced its first-ever regular service to Australia.

Commencing 26 October 2026, the Finnish flag carrier will launch daily flights between Helsinki and Melbourne via Bangkok, marking Finnair’s debut in Oceania and making it one of only a handful of European airlines to serve Australia with its own aircraft.

AY145: Helsinki → Bangkok → Melbourne
Departs Helsinki just after midnight | Arrives Bangkok 4:30pm | Lands Melbourne 7:15am next day

Each Bangkok stopover will be just under two hours, making the connection smooth and efficient.

Importantly, Finnair will hold fifth freedom rights on the Bangkok–Melbourne sector, meaning travellers can book flights solely between Melbourne and Bangkok, or continue onward to Europe via Helsinki.
