Star Alliance Business Class Round The World Airfares

For the last few decades, the Lufthansa Group has dominated the round-the-world airfare space for Australian travellers. Their fares have changed countless times, sometimes adding more options and flexibility and sometimes becoming more restrictive. Sometimes they increased their fare levels and sometimes the prices were reduced. Other carriers, such as Finnair, Air France and Virgin, from time to time, came out with fares that were competitive but there is no question that the Lufthansa Group has been dominant in the round-the-world market for as long as we can remember.

Over the last several months however, there have been multiple updates to their fares that have unfortunately, slowly but surely, made their product far less compelling.

The good news is that there are still several fantastic options available for Round The World travel!

Finnair, Turkish Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Air France/KLM all have great fares that allow stops in both North America and Europe but arguably the best value Business Class RTW airfare at the moment, is with Star Alliance.

Star Alliance RTW airfares have several fare levels, based primarily on the total distance covered (including any surface sectors). The lowest fare level is based on itineraries that are under 26,000 miles and it must include at least three stopovers.

The airlines that can be used on a Star Alliance airfare are below:

  • Air New Zealand
  • Thai Airways
  • Singapore Airlines
  • ANA
  • EVA Air
  • Air China
  • United Airlines
  • Avianca
  • South African Airways
  • Ethiopian Airlines
  • Egypt Air
  • Swiss Air
  • Lufthansa
  • Austrian Airlines
  • Air Canada
  • Asiana
  • Brussels Airlines
  • LOT Polish
  • Aegean
  • Croatia Airlines
  • Adria Airways
  • TAP Portugal
  • SAS Airlines
  • Shenzen Airlines
  • Turkish Airlines

There are a few of these carriers, such as Asiana, that don’t seem to be permitted on the very lowest Star Alliance round the world airfares, but for the most part as long as you keep travelling east or west the whole way around the world using these airlines and keep the itinerary under 26k miles, provided the required booking classes are available, a Business Class fare can be as low as $10,999 including taxes. This does vary depending on the airlines used, destinations visited and so on, but currently these are often the very best fares for Business Class Round The World travel.

Below is an example itinerary to illustrate the sort of trip that can be constructed using a Star Alliance Business Class RTW airfare:

  • Sydney – Auckland
    with Air New Zealand
  • Auckland – Honolulu
    with Air New Zealand
  • Honolulu – Chicago

    with Aegean

All in Business Class on some of the world’s best airlines, the total price for the above at the lowest level is just $11213.00 including taxes!
